What are sweepstakes casinos?
Sweepstakes Casinos essentially function like any other online casino, but they operate under a 'sweepstakes' model to skirt traditional gambling laws and regulations. The main difference being, these sites are always 'Free to play' and are required to offer free entry methods. You still have the option to buy in - but instead of 'depositing' cash, you 'purchase' coin packs that include two virtual currencies: Gold Coins (GC) which are purely for entertainment, funny money, and Sweeps Coins (SC) which hold real-world value and can be cashed out - the Sweeps Coins are what you're after!
02
What is SC (Sweeps Coins)?
Sweeps Coins are the currency you actually care about. They are redeemable for USD, typically at a 1:1 ratio - so 100 SC becomes $100 real cash when you redeem. The reason they exist under a separate name is purely legal: sweepstakes law requires that prize entries can't be sold directly. So SC is technically a 'promotional coin' given for free alongside Gold Coin purchases, through bonuses, or via mail-in requests. The label is different, but the money in your bank account after redemption is very real. A few sites refer to the Sweeps Coins with different names, like "Fortune Coins" for example, and a few will use different ratios, like 100:1 instead of 1:1. Regardless of what they call them or the ratio, these are where the money is!
03
What's the difference between Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins?
Gold Coins (GC) = funny money. Zero cash value, can't be redeemed, good for testing, or playing just for fun - they do carry some value on a few sites, more on that in a second. You can never purchase SC outright - they're always bundled free with GC packages, or earned through daily bonuses, promos, and AMOE requests. One thing worth noting: at certain casinos, GC can be used to level up your VIP tier, which unlocks better rewards and perks. That indirect value makes GC more useful than people think. Sites that support this are flagged on our sweepstakes casino list under the "VIP w GC" column.
04
Is this legal?
Yes it is! These platforms operate under US sweepstakes law, which is completely separate from gambling regulation. The dual-currency setup (GC for fun, SC for prizes) combined with mandatory free entry methods is what keeps the model legal. Every casino listed on SweepsGrail has been vetted by us for legitimacy before it ever makes the list.
05
How does SweepsGrail work?
We're a free resource hub and community focused on one thing: helping you extract maximum value from sweepstakes casino bonuses. We maintain a ranked list of 80+ casinos, track every worthwhile offer, calculate expected values, and publish guides that walk you through the process. When you sign up at casinos through our links, we may earn a commission - this is our incentive to run the group and how we keep the lights on. Everything we provide is free. We don't sell any subscriptions, or paywall any information. All we ask is that you use those signup links - they normally get you a bonus too!

07
What casinos are covered?
Dogbear's Grail currently tracks 80+ sweepstakes casinos with full breakdowns on welcome bonuses, daily SC, tier rankings, VIP programs, redemption minimums, and more. New casinos get added regularly as they launch and pass our review process. If a casino isn't on the list yet, it either hasn't launched, hasn't been vetted, or didn't make the cut.
08
What's the catch?
None! We don't sell courses, memberships, or premium tiers. Thousands of people across our Discord and r/SweepstakeSideHustle share their results every single day. We've always been open about how we make money (signup commissions) and we've published everything we know for free. The goal from day one has been to build something useful and to provide value for as many people as possible.
09
Who created SweepsGrail?
The group was founded in September 2024 on Reddit, r/SweepstakeSideHustle (previously r/SweepstakesSideHustle, deleted at 28k) and the Discord launched soon after that. It started as a simple personal spreadsheet and has turned into what's now the largest sweepstakes casino community on the internet.
10
How are sweepstakes casinos different from real money online casinos?
The biggest difference is the legal structure. Real money casinos (like those in NJ, PA, or MI) require you to deposit actual cash and are heavily regulated by state gaming commissions. Sweepstakes casinos don't involve depositing real money at all. They use the GC/SC system and run under sweepstakes law, which means they're available in far more states. The games themselves can be identical - same providers, same slots - but the way money flows in and out is fundamentally different.
11
What are sister sites and casino clones?
When the same parent company launches multiple sweepstakes casinos, those are sister sites (also called clones). They typically share game providers, platform code, and even visual design - but each one operates as its own separate casino. Why does this matter? Because every sister site has its own welcome bonus. If a company runs five casinos, that's five separate sign-up offers you can claim. Dogbear's Grail shows the parent company for every casino so you can easily identify which ones are related.
12
How often are new casinos added?
This space moves fast. New sweepstakes casinos launch all the time, and we add them to Dogbear's Grail once they've been reviewed, tested, and vetted. Sometimes we get multiple new casinos in a month. The best way to stay current is through the Discord or r/SweepstakeSideHustle where new launches get announced in real time, or just check SweepsGrail.com for casinos flagged as 'NEW'. Fresh casinos tend to offer the most aggressive welcome bonuses since they're trying to build a player base, so keeping up with launches can be very profitable. It is quite common for casinos to 'cool off' after a few weeks, and reduce welcome offers and daily login bonuses - so don't miss those new casino drops!
Eligibility
6 questions
13
I'm in (x) state - can I play?
It varies by platform, so check each casino's terms of service for their restricted states list. The most commonly blocked states are California, Connecticut, Idaho, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee, Washington, and West Virginia. But this isn't universal - some casinos have shorter restriction lists than others, so don't assume you're locked out without checking.
14
Do I have to be a US citizen?
No. Citizenship doesn't matter. What matters is where you live. If you reside in an eligible state and have a valid government-issued ID and proof of residence to pass KYC verification, you can play and redeem regardless of your nationality or immigration status.
15
How old do I have to be?
The minimum is 18 at most casinos, but a handful require 21+. It depends on the specific platform. Your age gets verified during KYC, so there's no way around this. Always confirm the age requirement in the casino's terms before creating an account.
16
Can my spouse or family member sign up on the same sites I use?
Most platforms do allow multiple accounts from the same household, as long as each account belongs to a real, separate person with their own identity and payment methods - don't share payment methods! That said, many casinos have limits on how many accounts can access the site from the same IP address or household. There are right ways and wrong ways to go about this. Check out our blog for a detailed post covering the do's and don'ts of household accounts so you don't accidentally get flagged.
17
Can I play from Canada or other countries?
Most sweepstakes casinos are US-only, with a few allowing players from Canada as well. We track this on Dogbear's Grail with the 'Canada' filter.
18
My state is banning sweepstakes casinos. What should I do?
This has happened in a few states already, and it may continue. If your state is pulling out of sweepstakes casinos, the most important thing is to redeem any SC balances before the cutoff date. Complete any pending KYC verification, play through any active bonuses, and redeem everything you can. Dogbear209 published a detailed checklist when California was affected - The California Checklist - and the same advice applies to any state where sweeps are leaving. Act fast, because once the ban goes live you may lose access to your account. Some casinos have proven to be travel-friendly, allowing players from restricted states to play from allowed states when they are physically present.
Earnings
11 questions
19
How much can I realistically earn?
That's directly tied to how many platforms you're working and how aggressive you want to be. If you just collect daily login rewards, click-n-claims, free spins, and other freebies across a bunch of sites, you can realistically pull in $400-$800/month with almost zero risk. Members who push harder and buy deals across dozens of casinos report much higher earnings. The top performers in the community consistently clear $5,000+ per month. Brand new? You can expect significant gains from the initial welcome offers given after initial signup - but keep your eyes out for additional sales and offers. You're limited by the amount of bonuses you can collect and sales you can churn. More casinos = more bonuses = more money.
20
How much time does this take?
After the initial learning curve, the daily routine is roughly 30 minutes. That's logging into your casinos, grabbing daily bonuses, checking for new promos, and spinning through any active playthrough. The first week or two will take more time as you set up accounts and learn how each platform works, but it gets very efficient once you've got a system.
21
What is farming?
Farming is the practice of logging into your casinos each day and collecting all the free stuff: daily login bonuses, click-n-claim links, free spins, and any other no-cost rewards. Over time, those small amounts stack up until you hit the redemption threshold and can cash out. It's the lowest-risk way to earn because you're never spending a dime of your own money. You're just consistently showing up, grabbing freebies, and letting the balance build. A lot of members farm across 20-30+ sites and pull in steady income from it every single month.
22
What is washing?
Washing is the practice of buying welcome offers, sales, and discounts, then fulfilling playthrough requirements strategically to put math and odds in your favor, and profit off the sale margins. This requires you to take the leap and make a purchase, but if you can stay disciplined and stick to our methods and systems, this is where the big bucks are. A lot of people find themselves hesitant to take that initial leap, but often go wild after they see the simplicity of the process and get a taste of the real potential.
23
What is a playthrough (wagering) requirement?
Before you can cash out SC, you need to wager them a set number of times. At most sweepstakes casinos this is 1x playthrough - meaning 10 SC received requires 10 SC in total bets before it's redeemable. Compare that to traditional online casinos where 20x-40x wagering requirements are common and you'll see why the sweepstakes model is so much more player-friendly, and why we're able to do what we do.
24
What games should I play to clear playthrough fastest?
We've identified the best games for each casino in our Go-to Games Guide. We generally combine small bet sizes, with high RTP (Return to Player) games and strategies to minimize volatility, and earn a consistent return. Typically slots with RTP 95% or above are solid. Low-volatility games are ideal because they produce steady, small wins that chew through wagering requirements without destroying your balance. Stay away from progressive jackpots and high-volatility titles when you're just trying to clear a bonus. The community maintains running lists of the best games for this in the Discord, and they update frequently as new titles drop.
25
I played 100 SC on a 97% RTP game and ended up with less than 97 SC. Why?
RTP is a statistical average calculated over millions of spins (sometimes 100 million+). It does not mean you'll get exactly 97 SC back for every 100 SC wagered in a single session. There will always be variance. Some sessions you'll end up above the RTP, some below. Over a very long period across many sessions, your results should trend toward the advertised RTP. Short-term swings are completely normal and expected.
26
How do VIP programs work at sweepstakes casinos?
A lot of casinos run tiered loyalty programs where playing more unlocks better perks - things like larger daily bonuses, larger sales, exclusive promotions, and sometimes a personal VIP rep. The real play here is that some platforms let you climb VIP tiers using Gold Coins, so you can farm status without touching your Sweeps Coins balance at all. Dogbear's Grail flags which casinos have VIP programs and which support GC farming so you know exactly where to focus.
27
What is cross roulette?
Cross roulette is one of the most powerful strategies we use. With cross roulette, you'll bet on Red/Black/Green with a live roulette game, across two different casinos at the same time. You'll win on one and lose on the other, but the goal is to clear playthrough requirements on both with minimal overall loss. This works because many of these casinos use the same 'Live game' providers - where a video feed shows a real-life roulette wheel, spinning somewhere in the world. Identify the same provider and game flavor on two casinos, purchase sales on both, split your bet in a way that equally covers all outcomes, think site A: 50 SC red + 3 SC Green, site B: 50 SC Black. Important: never cross between two sites owned by the same company. If you're unsure about how this works or which casinos to pair, ask in the Discord and someone will walk you through it.
28
What is a mail-in bonus (AMOE)?
AMOE = Alternate Method of Entry. By law, sweepstakes casinos have to provide a way to get free entries without buying anything. Along with the daily login reward, most of them also have an option to earn coins via physical mail - you write a request on a postcard or in a letter, send it to the address listed in their official rules, and they'll credit free SC to your account. The format varies by casino, so always read the specific terms before sending anything. Be aware that return time on the free credits can be anywhere from weeks to several months - don't expect fast here. This strategy is not a main focus of this group, but we do have a channel in Discord that supports it, and we've got some pros that hang out there!
29
Do I have to pay taxes on my winnings?
Yes, SC redemptions count as taxable income. If you redeem more than $600 in a calendar year from a single platform, they may issue a 1099 form. Keep your own records too - track every redemption, from every casino, throughout the year. We're not accountants and we do not offer any kind of specific tax guidance here, so definitely consult a tax professional for your specific situation - you'll be able to afford it!

2 questions
30
How do redemptions work?
The process is roughly the same everywhere: hit the minimum SC redemption threshold (typically $50-$100 depending on the casino, some are lower but none are higher than $100), verify your identity through KYC if you haven't already, and submit a redemption request. Payment options vary by platform but usually include ACH bank transfer, debit transfer, Skrill, PayPal, gift cards, or crypto. Expect 1-7 business days for processing. Some casinos offer instant redemptions as well, often with Skrill, Debit, or Crypto.
31
What is KYC and why do I need it?
KYC = Know Your Customer. Every sweepstakes casino is legally required to verify who you are before sending you money. Typically you'll submit a government-issued photo ID and some form of proof of address (utility bill, bank statement, etc.). They use third-party verification services similar to reputable financial institutions - so you're not handing your information over directly to the casino. Our advice: submit your KYC documents right after signing up or as early as possible to avoid any delays when you're ready to redeem and cash out. That way there's no surprises!

32
Why should I use your links to sign up?
Two reasons. First, it's how we keep everything free and support our whole team - the commission we earn from sign-up links pays for the site, the tools, and the time spent maintaining all of this. Second, our links sometimes carry exclusive bonus offers that you won't find by going directly to the casino. You never pay more by using our links. Same bonus or better, and you're supporting the community at the same time.
33
Do I need to spend any money?
Nope. Zero. Buying coin packs is always optional. Many members start this way, and earn exclusively from free offers. However, if you're focused on maximizing profits, you'll want to be buying discounted coin packs. But no pressure - we recommend getting a feel for things, and when you're comfortable and understand the systems we use, we encourage you to take the leap.
34
Can I have accounts at multiple casinos?
Not only can you, but you should. That's literally the strategy. Every casino is independent with separate bonuses, separate coins, and separate verification. Even sister-sites will allow you to register on all of their platforms. The more platforms you're signed up at, the more welcome offers and daily bonuses you're stacking. One important rule though: one account per person per casino! These casinos are sensitive to multi-accounting. Creating duplicates on the same site is likely to get you permanently banned.
35
Do I need to download an app?
Not required. The vast majority of sweepstakes casinos run directly in your web browser and are optimized for mobile, tablet, and desktop. Several do have official iOS/Android apps available, which can be convenient but are totally optional. Only a handful of these sites are 'app-only'. If you do download an app, only get it from the official App Store, Google Play, or a direct link on the casino's website. Don't install anything from random third-party sources.
36
A freebie link isn't working for me. Why not?
A few common reasons: you may have already claimed it (most freebies are one-time use), your account might not be eligible (some require a prior purchase on the site), or the offer may have expired. Most freebie links work for everyone, but a handful have specific conditions. For example, some casinos release multiple batches of free spins per day but only let you claim one batch. If a link consistently doesn't work, drop a message in the Discord and someone will help you understand why.
37
I submitted a Google Form for free SC but never got credited. What's going on?
Some casinos (like Wow Vegas) offer free SC through Google Form submissions, but they don't credit instantly. It can take a couple of days after submitting before the SC shows up in your account. Also, some of these forms have hidden requirements. For example, certain casinos check whether you're following their social media pages before approving the credit. If you haven't followed them on Facebook or other platforms, that could be why you're not receiving anything. Make sure you meet all the stated requirements, then be patient.
Risks
4 questions
38
What are the risks?
If you stick to the strategies and play with free SC and bonus funds, the downside is minimal. The math is in your favor when you're working profitable offers. Where risk creeps in is when people go off-plan and start playing for fun. That's gambling, not strategy. Stick to our strategies, have a plan, and stay on course! If you're struggling, pop in Discord and ask for help!
39
Can I get banned from a casino?
Any platform technically has the right to close an account. In practice, players who follow the rules rarely have issues. The things that get people flagged are multi-accounting, bot usage, abusing referral systems, and violating terms of service. Everything we teach works within each casino's rules. On the rare occasion someone does get restricted, the community has seen it before and can help you figure out next steps.
40
What is a promo ban?
A promo ban is different from an outright ban - a promo ban (or pban) is a restriction on being offered sales and discounts. Some casinos will evaluate things like your play patterns and profitability to determine eligibility for future promotions. Most often, you'll still be able to collect daily rewards, and will still have access to all features, but sales on discounted coins will either be limited, lessened, or restricted completely. If you're doing things right and following our strategies, you will eventually receive some promo bans. They're nothing to freak out over, the best bet is to move onto other platforms and wait it out, typically they'll get back to offering you sales again in some time.
41
Is my personal information safe?
These sites use industry-standard SSL encryption and data protection measures. That said, you're handing personal documents to third-party companies, so basic security hygiene matters: use unique passwords for each casino, turn on two-factor authentication wherever it's offered, and don't reuse passwords.
